THE 1854 NIGER EXPEDITION

The Europeans made a remarkable success on the account of the fact that no lives were lost during the 188 days in Africa thanks to QUININE, a drug that helped with malaria. PLEAID was the name of the steamship, they reduced the amount of Europeans to the barest minimum as to prevent casualties. Treaties were signed, the river Benue was discovered to be a tributary of river Niger. It was led by Mr. William Balker and S.A Crowther and J.C Taylor represented the CMS.
